Simple Sentence
A simple sentence contains a subject and a verb. It is one independent clause.
E.g. The baby cried for food.
Subject-The baby
Verb-cried
Compound Sentence
A compound sentence has 2 independent clauses. It is 2 simple sentences, joined by a conjunction.
E.g. The shoplifter had stolen clothes, so he ran from the police.
Independent #1 The shoplifter had stolen clothes
Independent #2 he ran from the police

Complex Sentence
A complex sentence has 1 independent clause and 1 or more dependent clauses. Which have a subordinating conjunction OR relative pronouns.
E.g. After eating lunch at the restaurant, Tim went to exercise at the gym.
Independent- Tim went to exercise at the gym.
Dependent- After eating lunch at the restaurant
