what is a sentence?
a group of words, usually containing a verb, that express a thought in the form of a statement, question, instruction or exclaimation
what is a phrase?
a group of words that adds information to a sentence
what is a clause?
a group of related words containing a subject that tells readers what the sentence is about, and a verb that tells the reader what the subject is doing
what is a single clause?
a sentence made up of one independent main clause
what is a multiclause?
a sentence made up of two independent main clauses usually joined by a conjunction. a sentence consisting of at least one independent main clause and one dependent clause
what is an interrogative?
asks a question
what is a declarative?
makes a statement
what is an imperative?
gives a direction or command

what is active voice?
when thee subject of the sentence is doing the action, the verb is said to be in the active voice e.g. the boy kicked the ball
what is the direct object?
answers the question “what?” or “whom?” e.g. Jenny invited SCOTT to the party or Jenny repaired her CAR
