Simple Sentence
Basic structure: Subject + Verb + Object (SVO)
Negation
To negate a sentence, use “Kāore” before the verb.
Questions
Forming questions: Use “He” or “E hia” for asking about things or numbers. Add “?” at the end of the statement for yes/no questions.
Possessive
Indicating possession: Use “tōku” (my), “tāu” (your), “tāna” (his/her).
Location
Indicating location: Use “kei” for present location, “i” for past location, and “ki” for future direction or movement.
Commands
Giving commands: Use the verb at the start of the sentence.
Time
Indicating time: Use time words such as “Inanahi” (yesterday), “Āpōpō” (tomorrow) at the beginning of the sentence.
Existence
Indicating existence: Use “He” to indicate the existence of something.
Adjectives
Describing with adjectives: Place the adjective after the noun it describes.
Comparisons
Making comparisons: Use “rite” for “like” or “similar to,” and “mō te” for “for” in the sense of comparisons.
Questions with “Who” and “What”
Use “Ko wai” (Who) and “He aha” (What) for questions.
Relatives/Family
Use terms like “tāku” (my), “tōu” (your), “tōna” (his/her) to indicate possession.
Future Tense
Indicating future actions: Use “Ka” before the verb.
Past Tense
Indicating past actions: Use “I” before the verb.
Continuous Action
Indicating ongoing action: Use “Kei te” before the verb.
