Equative phrases
Definite phrase + subject

Definite phrase
referring to someone/something specific. Ko te Kiore (the rat)
Active Sentences
Tense + verb + subject + i/ki + object.
Kei te haere ahau ki te kura
Kei te/I/Kua/Ka/e verb ana.
Passive Sentences
Tense + verb(passivized) + patient + e + agent
Kua hangaia te marae e ngā tohunga.
Kei te hokona te aporo e ahau.
Passive sentences:
Note the differences which take place:(3)
1.There is a ‘tail’ or passive ending on the verb.
2.The direct object marker ‘i’ has been deleted;
3.The letter e comes before the agent.
The Agent Emphatic
Past tense
Nā + agent + subject + (i)+ verb
Nā te kōtiro te taramu i patu.
Na ahau te pene i tuhia.
Future tense
Mā + agent + subject + (e) + verb
Mā te kōtiro te taramu e patu.
Mā ahau te pene e tuhia.
