Noun clause:

Keep in mind that we cannot detach the noun clause from the rest of the sentence, consider the following example:

What Sheila wanted most was a cup of tea with honey.
“What Sheila wanted most” is a noun clause in this sentence. Why?

One easy way to test for a noun clause is to replace it with a … or … or … to help you identify it.

A

Because the noun clause contains a subject and verb, but does not express a complete idea. It serves as the subject of the sentence.

Replace the noun clause with a pronoun (to make a complete sentence) or “something” or “someone”
