Q

How does the inner ear muscle adapt to loud noises?

A

A louder noise = muscles contract (this dampens vibrations in the inner ear, protecting the er drum)

Q

What are the up and down regulations of light intensity?

A

a) Down regulation: light adaptation. When it is bright out, pupils constrict (less light enters the back of the eye), and the desensitization of rods and cones to light
b) Up regulation: dark adaptation. Pupils dilate, rods and cones start synthesizing light sensitive molecules

Q

How does one find the k-constant of Weber’s law?

A
delta I (the just noticeable difference) divided by I (initial intensity of the stimulus) = l
JND: difference threshold

Q

What is high intensity in terms of neural activity?

A

Intensity - how quickly neurons fire for us to notice
Slow = low intensity
Fast = high intensity
