Sensory Perception Flashcards
Near vision test
Rosenbaum chart
Distant eye chart
E chart, Snellen
restriction of blood flow to the brain
Atherosclerosis
Hearing tested; ev. 10 yrs @ 50 ev. 3 yrs
Vision tested; ad lib after 40 yrs or occurance check annually
Taste, smell, touch; pt c/o change-neuro check
Screenings
Visual acuity; Optic nerve II; Snellen Chart or Rosenbalm
Hearing acuity; Acoustic nerve viii; Whisper test/Rinne/Weber tuning fork; rub fingers
Gustatory sense; taste CN XII & Gloss IX
Olfactory sense; CN I smell something
Tactile sense; dull/sharp CN V
Physical Assessment
Slight 26-40 dB; Partial 41-60 dB Congenital/Total 61-80 dB Acquired 81-90 dB Severity of hearing loss >90 deaf
Hearing Impairment
something blocking ear to ear drum
Disruption in transmission of sound
Obstruction
Conductive hearing loss
Not able to go beyond eardrum
-affects inner ear, auditory nerve pathway
Lost in translation to brain
Sensorineural hearing loss
Loop diuretic, Lasix, ibprofen, gentimiacin (antibiotic)
Ototoxic drugs
Damage to hair cells; degenerate hearing loss (w age)
higher-pitched tones, conversational speech lost initially; talking in a lower tone instead of raising your voice helps older people hear
Presbycusis
Toxoplasmosis Rubela Cytomegalovirus Syphilis Herpes
Torch infections (resulting in congenital hearing loss)
Ringing in the ears; white noise masks
Tinnitus
Risk for Injury
Impaired Verbal Communication
Social Isolation
Nursing Diagnosis
reconstruction of the middle ear; structures in the middle ear are reconstructed to improve conductive hearing deficits ie. otitis media with necrosis scarring of the mddle ear
Tympanoplasty
removal and replace of the stapes, treat hearing loss assoc with otosclerosis.
Stapedectomy
