Sensory Filtering Flashcards
What is sensory filtering?
To be able to pick out specific stimuli amongst other stimuli to determine which one is useful and which is not
What are the important cell properties for host seeking
Females need blood protein for egg development and males feed on nectar
Females find hosts using chemicals (long distance and physical (short distance) cues
Some species seek out carbon dioxide as it will eventually lead them to vertebrae
Human specialist species are attracted to compounds of human sweat.
How are electical potentials in nuerones reduced
Ions move across the membranes which creates an electrical potential
Stimulus or voltage gated ion channels
A stimulus or voltage can open a gated ion channel
