Sensor
A type of input device that detects changes in the environment surrounding it
Ambient light
The brightness or darkness at the current time
What do light sensors use to detect how light it is?
Ambient light level
Where can light sensors be used? (5)

How does a security system works?
When the sensor doesn’t receive any light from the laser it means that the beam is broken by an object
How can a code be detected?
The diode light up the bars and the reflection is caught by the sensor, the computer converts the reflection into binary digits
How can a robot use the light sensor?
It can detect the reflection from the surfaces and know how far the obstacles are
Temperature sensor
Measures heat generated by on object/system
Thermostat
A device, which keeps temperature at a constant level
What 2 types of temperature sensors can be used?
1) Non contact
2) Contact
Contact sensor
Needs to have a physical contact with an object (solid, gas, liquid)
Non contact sensor
Measures the radiated energy
Where can a temperature sensor be used? (3)

Accelerometer
A device that detects rotation and tilt
Uses of a motion sensor? (4)
