1
Q

Define lactate threshold and lactate turn point?

A
  • The first point where lactate levels first start to rise above baseline
  • Second break point – sudden and sustained increase in blood lactate

Q

What factors influence lactate levels?

A
  • Depleted glycogen stores
  • Muscle fiber composition
  • Glycolytic and lipolytic enzyme activity
  • Capillary and mitochondrial density
  • Test design and data treatment
  • Best fitting procedures

Q

Why measure gross efficiency, what is it and why is it important?

A
  • GE – measure of effective work. The amount of work completed relative to the amount of energy expended for each stage of the submaximal test.
  • Valuable for assessing your adaptation to training
  • Key determinant of endurance cycling performance
  • A more efficient individual will be able to produce more power at a given metabolic rate / or produce a given power output at a lower metabolic rate

Q

What training adaptations occur on blood lactate?

A
  • Downward and rightward shift of blood lactate curve
  • Increase lactate removal and or decrease production
  • Increased fat oxidation and or decrease cho oxidation
  • Increase cardio respiratory fitness
  • Increase peripheral adaptation

Q

What are the uses of the catapult tracking system?

A
  • Assess the intensity of training sessions and matches
  • Rehabilitation - Long term tracking can compare results during rehab to best results
  • Track athletic performance
  • Determine and quantify physiological demands of the game
  • Prescribe more appropriate training
  • Assess conditioning and physical preparation programs
  • Ensure what was planned for session was achieved

Q

Benefits of catapult tracking system

A
  • Wireless / real time analysis with a 200m range
  • Create time stamps for beginning and end of training drills or games which can be automatically applied to uploaded files
  • Customize pitch or grounds by mapping player positions
  • Synchronize GPS animations with videos

Q

What are the drawbacks of lab based fitness testing for team sport athletes?

A
  • Time to complete for large teams
  • Lack of specificity – particularly no turning
  • Doesn’t replicate the intermittent demands of these sports
