Pisistratus first tyranny
Factional dispute between coastal peoples, Pisistratid formed a third faction. He went into Athens as if he was escaping some enemies and managed to get himself a personal guard, he then started an uprising and took the Acropolis.
Pisistratus in power
He did not interfere with the existing structure of office, or change the laws - he organised the state well.
Pisistratus’ second tyranny
Became tyrant by marrying Megacles’ daughter.
Aristotle’s thoughts on Pisistratus
He wont great fame in the war against Megara. He was thought to have been a great advocate of the people.
Tyrannicides
Aristogeiton and Harmodios, they killed Pisistratus’ son: Hipparchus. It is thought that Aristogeiton wanted to kill him because he thought that he was having a love affair with Harmodius.
