Seminar 2- Conducting an anatomical analysis of a movement Flashcards
qualitative anatomical analysis
An analysis in which the predominant muscular activity and the active muscle groups during each phase of a movement are identified.
Steps in conducting a qualitative anatomical analysis
-Divide activity into temporal phases
-Identify joints involved and movements occurring at joints
-Determine type of muscular contraction and identify the predominant active muscle group at each joint.
-Identify instances when rapid joint angular accelerations (rapid speeding up or slowing down of joint motions) occur and where impacts occur.
-Identify any extremes in joint ranges of motion.
what is a “phase of human
movement”?
A distinct portion or stage of
a movement
what is a “segment” in anatomy and biomechanics
-Portion of the body, (e.g. arm, leg, or torso) that can be treated as a single unit for purposes of analysis and movement.
-Often defined based on joints that connect them
-Segments often studied to understand how they interact with each other.
-Includes study of the forces acting on segments, movements they undergo, contributions of different body structures to these movements.
