Case study- research method that involves an intensive investigation of one or more participants

The placebo effect is a change in a patient’s illness or physical state that results solely from the patients knowledge and perceptions of the treatment (giving you a sugar pill telling you it’s tylenol, and your headache starts to go away)

why is the brain stem so important to our survival?

A

The brain stem is an extension of the spinal cord. Is essential for bodily activities essential to survival, such as changes in heartbeat and breathing. Initiation of a set reflexes, the focusing of attention, and patters of arousal (that is sleeping versus walking). If the brain stem is damages person may lapse into a coma or even die because of its control of functions essential to survival.

A

Hallucinogens are drugs that often produce hallucinations. Narcotics are opiates and they’re used for pain and calming.

Authoritarian - parents attempt to control shape and evaluate the behavior and attitudes of children and adolescents in accordance with set code of conductis

Authoritative- children and adolescents participate in decisions affecting their lives

Permissive: children and adolescnets have the final say, parents are less controlling and have non-punishing, accepting attitudes toward children

Neglecting- typically egocentric in their child rearing and seemed uncommitted to their roles and quite distant from their children
