Q
  1. What is synderesis and how does it relate to the formation of conscience? Why is synderesis infallible?
A

Synderesis is known to be the foundation on which conscience is built upon because synderesis is the limit to which all people (to varying degrees) understand value. Synderesis is infallible because it can never be incorrect—this is according to if a person always seeks to make a good action. (E-text: 44, physical 35).

Q
  1. What is moral science and how does it relate to the formation of conscience?”
A

Moral science is known as the process that builds, teaches, studies, and develops (+ changes) synderesis. This relates to the formation of conscience because an individual has to look at their varying sources, experiences, and influences of their moral knowledge to perform what is the best—essentially, the right—thing to do in a certain situation (E-text 45-46, physical 36-37).

Q
  1. What is a judgment of conscience? What does it mean to say that a judgment of conscience is dialogical in nature?
A

A judgment of conscience is best known as the specific determination of the good an individual must perform in a current situation, having experienced it previously, or will perform this act in the near future. To say that judgment of conscience is dialogical in nature is to recognize that the judgment of conscience is an inner dialogue with an individual person but also a dialogue between that person and God (E-text 48-49, physical 39-40).

Q
  1. What is the binding nature of a correct judgment of conscience? Of a mistaken judgment of conscience?
A

The binding nature of a correct judgment of conscience is with God and his calling for obedience on all of humanity. Our conscience, therefore, is not commanded by its own, but commanded under the authority of God. On the other hand, the binding nature of a mistaken judgment of conscience is conditional under the sense that it is qualified—where one is obliged to follow a new and correct form of judgment of conscience under the condition that the individual is not able to follow their mistaken judgment of conscience and that they can not appeal to the conscience to what the individual had assumed to be right previously (E-text 49-51, physical 40-42).

Q
  1. What is antecedent ignorance? What is consequent ignorance? Which excuses one from sin?”
A

An antecedent ignorance is also known as an ignorance that precedes an act of the will and is unwilled. A consequent ignorance happens when a person chooses to remain ignorant, therefore, acting out of inattention and displays an ignorance that lacks intelligence around the information of facts and laws. The antecedent ignorance excuses one from their sins (E-text 51, physical 42).
