Semester 2 Flashcards
Definition of Explicit rationing and Implicit rationing
Explicit rationing: Decisions made from rules that have been set in place (CEO rule)
Implicit rationing: Decisions made with the rules not being clearly expressed (Manager rule)
Definition of Technical efficiency and Allocative efficiency
Technical efficiency - choosing the most efficient way to treat a need
Allocative efficiency - choosing between multiple needs
Name 4 ways to compare cost and benefits of a treatment
- Cost utility analysis
- Cost effectiveness analysis
- Cost benefit analysis
- Cost minimisation analysis
What cost analysis presumes that the outcomes are equivalent?
Cost minimisation analysis
What cost analysis compares interventions that all have a common health outcome?
Cost effectiveness analysis
What cost analysis puts a monetary value on each input and output?
Cost benefit anaylsis
What cost analysis uses Quality adjusted life year (QALYs) as a measurement?
Cost utility analysis (a type of cost effectiveness analysis)
What 4 factors make up the COM-B model?
Capability, motivation, opportunity and behaviour
Primordial prevention definition and target population
Promote healthy living in the general public (that is asymptomatic)
Primary prevention definition and target audience
Disease prevention in a population that is at risk of getting the disease
Secondary prevention definition and target audience
Slow down disease progression in asymptomatic population (e.g. screening)
In a screening test what are the definitions for sensitivity and specificity?
Sensitivity - all the people that actually have the disease
Specificity - all the people that actually don’t have the disease
What is lead time bias
Early diagnosis appears to prolong survival, where in fact, patients live the same amount of time regardless of their diagnosis timing
Example of specificity of association:
Mesothelioma is associated with exposure to what?
Asbestos
Stigmas:
Felt vs Enacted defintions
Felt: the fear of having enacted stigma so you conceal your condition
Enacted: active prejudice and discrimination as a result of your condition
