What does neuropsychology study?
the relationship between brain and behaviour.
What is ARBD?
Alcohol-Related Brain Disease. An umbrella term to refer to a number of issues caused by alcohol misuse.
What is Wernicke Encephalopathy? (WE)
An ARBD. includes eye movement disorders, impaired coordination, issues with balance, confusion and other altered mental issues.
What is Korsakoff Syndrome? (KS)
An ARBD. Includes severe retrograde and anterograde amnesia, spatiotemporal disorientation and executive dysfunction.
What is Wernicke Korsakoff Syndrome? (WKS)
AN ARBD. Includes two stages, WE which is acute and reversible and KS which is chronic and irreversible.
What is MMSE?
Mini-mental state examination. A method of assessing global cognitive function. A brief, 11 item screening test to assess the severity of cognitive impairment.
What is Wechsler Memory Scale? (WMS)
A method of assessing memory impairment. Involves comprehensive test composing of five indexes, general memory, verbal memory, visual memory, attention/concentration, and delayed recall.
What is Rey Osterrieth Complex Figure?
A method of assessing memory impairment. Nonverbal test of visual memory, visuospatial construction ability and executive functioning.
What is the temporal area of the brain responsible for?
memory, limbic system hippocampus.
What is the motor area of the brain responsible for?
Initiation of voluntary muscles.
What is the Broca’s area of the brain responsible for?
language and speech production.
What is the cingulate cortex in the brain responsible for?
conflict monitoring.
What is the parietal area of the brain responsible for?
integrating sensory information.
What is the Somatosensory Association Area responsible for?
integrating and analysing different somatic inputs.
What is Wernicke’s area responsible for?
language comprehension. (written and spoken)
