Irony
Using language in such a way as to convey a meaning opposite of meaning of the word
Ex: I was simply overjoyed at the thought of having to leave my guy and return to school for finals.
Rhetorical question
Asking a question for a purpose other than obtaining the information requested.
Ex: a good student is the most important factor in a great education today.how can you make a good wine with poor grapes ?
Oxymoron
Placing two ordinary opposing terms adjacent to one another. A compressed paradox
Ex: thunderous silence, jumbo shrimp, she was most conspicuous by her absence.
Paradox
An apparently contradictory statement that contains a measure of truth.
Ex: art is a form of lying in order to tell the truth .
