A figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. Used to make a description more emphatic or vivid.

conversion from the inanimate to animate grammatical category. Animacy is the expression of how sentient or alive the noun is.

A humorous exploit involving the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words which sound alike but have different meanings.

Lexical Ambiguity
The presence of two or more possible meanings within a single word. Similar to hyponymy.

a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words
