where a word or phrase can be interpreted in more than one way
what is a euphemism
mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too hash or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing
what is a dysphemism
a derogatory or unpleasant term used instead of a pleasant or neutral one
what are hypernyms
describes a more broad term for example, cutlery
what are hyponyms
more specialised and specific word for example spoon or German shepherd
what are semantic functions of prepositions
special relationships
where somethings is located relative to another noun e.g. the dog is asleep under the bed
temporal relationships
established in time relationships between nouns.
important when clarifying the time period where an event occurred e.g. the town changed a lot after the war
logical relationships
represents a connection between two objects that is found in space or time.
e.g. I graduated high school because of my maths teacher

a language style associated with a particular social group
what is occupational register
a technical vocabulary associated with a particular occupation or activity

a language style associated with a particular geographical region
