Recall
To supply or reproduce memorised information with a minimum of external cues
Short term memory
The memory system used to hold small amounts of information for relatively brief time periods
Eyewitnesses testimony
A person who witnesses a crime and later gets up on the stand and recalls for the court that witnessed event
Sensory memory
The first stage of memory which holds an exact record of incoming information for a few seconds or less
Cue dependent forgetting
Memories that are often available but not accessible
Eg. Tip of the tongue phenomenon
Encoding
Changing information into a form that allows it to be stored in memory
Interference
The tendency for new memories to impair retrieval of older memories and the reverse
Long term memory
The memory system used for relatively permanent storage of meaningful information
