What is puritis?
Subjective sensation of itching the desire to scratch
It’s a symptom
Where are the itch receptors?
Dermo-epidermal junction or basal epidermist
Which is the most puritic skin diseases?
Superficial inflammatory diseases
Explain the itch threshold concept
There is a level of puritis that an animal can cope with, then when this level goes over the itch threshold the animal will display itching. You need to reduce the itch down to below the animals threshold - by treating one problem you may reduce to below threshold but not get underlying cause

Surface mites - cheyletiella
Burrowing mites - sarcoptes
Trombicula n. - harvest mites

Secondary infections will cause puritis
