Self-Management Skills Flashcards
What do you mean by stress? What is the difference between eustress and distress?
Stress is a state in which the body and mind try to adjust to changes around us.
Eustress is the positive effect of stress. It helps us stay motivated, like the happiness we feel after passing an exam with flying colors.
Distress is the negative form of stress. It makes us feel discouraged when we fail to achieve something.
List distress symptoms due to overwork or overstudy.
Headache
Fatigue
Disturbed sleep
Low energy
Anxiety
Feeling demotivated
Loss of attention
Depression and frustration
Anxiety outbursts
Overreaction
What is internal stress, and what are its effects?
Internal stress is caused by our thoughts. It is a mental state that leads to anxiety, fear of problems, and unrealistic expectations. If not managed, it can cause:
Headache
Heart trouble
Insomnia
Memory loss
Loss of focus

What is internal and external stress awareness?
Internal stress awareness: Built on our values and belief systems, it helps us understand our passions and standards. With self-awareness, we can manage stress in our home and surroundings.
External stress awareness: The ability to assess how others perceive us. It improves self-improvement, leadership skills, and interpersonal skills.
How does self-motivation and self-regulation help in achieving your goal?
Self-motivation enables us to take action on our ideas and thoughts. Our weaknesses can limit self-motivation, so we need self-awareness to counter them. Proper self-awareness helps convert thoughts into actions. Self-regulation and discipline are also necessary to use our strengths and abilities to overcome weaknesses. This ultimately helps in achieving our goals.
What do you mean by self-management?
Self-management is the process of managing oneself to achieve higher goals and targets. Every task begins with a thought process, leading to a plan for execution. It involves:
Managing resources
Time management
Identifying goals
Prioritizing tasks
Why is self-management important for us?
Self-management helps in:
Developing an inspiring personality
Gaining clarity of thought
Respecting the value of time
Achieving higher success rates
Building self-discipline
Encouraging social co-creation
Explain the Fight-Flight-Freeze response.
The Fight-Flight-Freeze response is the body’s reaction to sudden danger for survival. One part of the nervous system triggers fight or flight, preparing the body to react violently or escape. Once the danger passes, another part of the nervous system restores normalcy. In the freeze response, the body temporarily becomes unable to react until the threat is gone or the person succumbs to it. This response can also be triggered in non-dangerous situations, like public speaking.
Despite the importance of teamwork, how does the ability to work independently help an individual?
Most of the tasks are achieved through teamwork, but there are many cases where our ability to work independently is important. Working independently doesn’t mean working alone. Being able to work independently means accomplishing the tasks assigned to you without unnecessarily claiming the time of others. For example, if you are a part of the Green Club team in your school which has planned to plant certain trees in a locality, you are assigned the task of collecting funds for procuring 20 seeds by next Sunday. In this case, no other team member should help you in this. It is something you need to do independently.
