What is meant by self-management?
actively engaging with behaviours that have the goals of recognising, treating and managing your own health
According to Corbin and Strauss, what are the 3 main aspects of self-management ?
- medical management

What is self-efficacy belief ?
the patient’s belief in their ability to be successful in a particular action
e.g attempting to lose weight multiple times and failing may lead someone to believe they aren’t able to lose weight at all
What are the 2 tests for checking blood sugar levels ?
- HbA1c test
- ‘finger prick’ test
What does the HbA1c test measure ?
measures the average blood sugar level over the past few months
carried out by a healthcare professional
What are the NICE guidelines referring to type 2 diabetes and the gmfinger prick test?
routine self-monitoring should not be recommended unless there are specific reasons
