2) Contemplation: people intend to change within 6 months, aware of the pros of changing but still think about the cons

3) Preparation: stage where people intend to take action in the immediate future, more confident in their ability to change, view pros of changing as more than cons

4) Action: stage where people apply different processes to change their behavior

5) Maintenance: stage where people are working to consolidate the gains they made during action to minimize risks for relapse
