Q

What is selective breeding?

A

When producing offspring, selective breeding is used to create the best, desirable characteristics. Farmers will choose their best animals or plants to breed and the offspring are more likely to share their parents treated due to holding a dominant allele.

Q

Disadvantages of selective breeding?

A

Selective breeding reduces variation within a species.

“Useful” genes may be lost, that could have been needed in the future for new deceases. Therefore the species could become extinct as you don’t have any other variation to breed with.

In- breeding ( closely related dogs are bred together) can cause genetically inherited diseases.
