Types of Architect Selection
DIRECT SELECTION
COMPARATIVE SELECTION
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN COMPETITION (ADC)
This type of selection involves:

DIRECT SELECTION
This type of selection involves:
- Invitation
- Pre-Qualification

COMPARATIVE SELECTION
It is used for civic or monumental projects. The competition may either be an idea competition, design or design build competition. Various Architects or Architectural Firms submit plan/ design solutions to a particular design problem and are judged on the basis of competitive excellence.
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN COMPETITION (ADC)
Advantage of ADC
- open only to PRC-Registered Licensed Architects (RLA’s) or PRC-Registered Architectural Firms (AF’s)
- client/committee will have a wider range of options
Disadvantage of ADC
- Process may be expensive and time consuming.
- The time and effort required may discourage qualified firms from participating.
- potential thieves/scammers seeking free services under the guise of design competition
ADC Procedure is done with the assistance of what organization?
Integrated and Accredited Professional Organization of Architects (IAPOA) or its local chapters
The person or organization that undertakes or promotes an ADC with the primary objective of obtaining excellence in design for a project or for a development concept. The owner issues the invitation to architects to submit plans/designs in accordance with a program and finances the ADC.
SPONSOR/ CLIENT/ OWNER
Who are the competitors of ADC?
Filipino/ Philippine-Registered and Licensed Architects (RLA) and IAPOA members in good standing
Foreign Architect requirements
- must be registered in his/her country of origin
- Temporary Special Permit (TSP) from PRC
- Work Permit from DOLE
- working with a local Filipino RLA
The people appointed by the owner to assess the entries to the competition. The members of the jury are called jurors. It consists of a majority of registered and licensed architects assisted by a lay juror to represent and voice the intention of the owner. They are nominated by the owner and approved by the Integrated and Accredited Professional Organization of Architects (IAPOA).
JURY
An Architect nominated by the owner and approved by the IAPOA to organize the ADC on behalf of the owner.
PROFESSIONAL ADVISOR
Specialist personnel who may be consulted by the jurors during the conduct of the ADC on behalf of the owner
TECHNICAL ADVISOR
The body formed by the owner and approved by the professional advisor, to assist the professional advisor and the jury in the administrative conduct of the ADC
COMPETITION SECRETARIAT
An Architectural Design Process where planning usually takes place. Gathering data, analyzing, planning are consequently the beginning process for architect’s scope of services.
PRE-DESIGN SERVICES
