Focal seizure

+/- Motor symptoms
Focal aware
No loss of conciousness
Focal impaired awareness
Loss of consiousness
Gneralized seizures
Both side of the brain
Motor symptoms
Generalized impaired awareness
Loss of consciousness
Motor symptoms
Colonic: Rhythmical jerking
Atonic: Limp or weak muscle
Myoclonus: Muscle twitching
Tonic: Rigid or tense muscles
All Antiepileptic drugs require these supplements
Calcium & Vitamin D
Folate: women of child bearing age
Selenium & zinc for alopecia
Carnitine: Valproic acid
Diagnosis
Electroencephalogram (EEG)
Brain activity
Status epilepticus
Seizure lasting longer than 5 minutes or 2 discrete seizures between which there is incomplete recovery of consciousness
Status epilepticus treatment
- ABC
- Benzo:
Lorazepam (Ativan) rapid onset 0.1 mg/kg/dose IV (Max: 4 mg/dose)
Diazepam (Valium )
