Phenobarbital Therapeutic Range

C-IV barbiturate
Produce tolerance, psychological dependence and physical dependence with prolonged use
Abrupt discontinuation can cause physiological withdrawal
Seizure risk is higher in patients being treated for seizures

4 - 12 mcg/mL

Tegretol
Aplastic anemia and agranulocytosis
Divalproex and Valproic acid
Thrombocytopenia, weight gain, hair loss
Fosphenytoin
IM injection
Prodrug of phenytoin, mixed with either NS or D5W
Zonisamide
Allergic reaction in a patient with sulfa allergy
Weight loss
Decreased sweating
Kidney stones
Topiramate
Decreased appetite, weight loss, angle closure glaucoma (increased IOP) and metabolic acidosis
Fetal harm, elevated ammonia levels, kidney stones
Phenytoin
Hirsutism, gingival hyperplasia
Osteoporosis, hepatotoxicity and peripheral neuropathy
