Aluminum and magnesium may decrease absorption

Phenytoin and valproic acid are highly protein bound
Transient elevation in free drug can occur
Drug Interactions - Metabolic
Inducers: carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbitol
Inhibitors: valproic acid
AED monitoring
Check blood level after 2 weeks
Monitor seizures, CBC, LFTs
