Q

What can you NOT use the gerund for in Spanish?

A
  1. As a noun. Use the initiative (often preceded by masc. def. Article (él).) i.e. “Se prohíbe el fumar” not “Fumando está prohibido”
  2. As an adjective. Instead use a real adjective or descriptive phrase. I.e. “avispas que matan” not “avispas matando”
  3. After prepositions. It’s always an infinitive after these. I.e. “Di un paseo después de comer” not “di un paseo después de comiendo”
  4. In the future tense. You can’t say “Están saliendo mañana” - instead day “Saldrán mañana”
