What is malware?
Malware is short for malicious software it is software designed to disrupt or damage a computer system
There are many different types of malware including viruses Trojans worms and spyware
What are viruses?
Viruses are programs that have been written to copy the code into other programs
They can delete and alter files, display unwanted sounds and messages, redirect websites, and copy them selves
They can come from downloading, infected USB’s, opening links in emails etc
What is a keylogger?
Keylogger records all of the keys that you press on your computer system they can be installed by viruses and Trojans
They are a major security risk as you will be taping and a lot of personal information such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, email address this information is then sent to the programmer
What is a Trojan horse?
This type of malicious software pretends to be a useful program while secretly performing another function
What is fraud?
Fraud is the act of deceiving someone to take advantage of them there are many examples of online fraud people are conned into spending money
What is phishing?
This is an attempt by someone to get you to send them personal information
What is identity theft?
This is the situation were someone else pretends to be you
What is a DOS attack?
Denial of service
A DOS attack is different from a virus, it stops computer systems from functioning properly
The attacker floods the server with lots of requests for data
