Deliberate Vehicle Check Point
A permanent, fortified checkpoint usually placed along an approach to a built up or restricted area
Hasty Vehicle Check Point
A pre-planned, temporary checkpoint in support of a specific operation or during a specific time of day/year
Snap Vehicle Check Point
An immediate checkpoint employed during a patrol based on a fragmentary order from higher or at the patrol leader’s discretion

Security (VCP Component)
Positions in support of and around a VCP are established in order to provide security from external threats and cover vehicles within the checkpoint itself

Marines are placed in a covert overwatch position(s) in order to provide situational awareness and counter-ambush capabilities
Serpentine (VCP Component)
Physical barriers are emplaced to slow, canalize, turn, and stop vehicles entering the checkpoint
Search Area (VCP Component)
Marines conduct vehicle and personnel searches at a designated area within the established serpentine to look for and prevent the flow of enemy personnel, weapons, explosives and equipment
