Levels of Security Classification
TOP SECRET is the designator applied to material whose
unauthorized disclosure can be expected to cause
exceptionally grave damage to national security.
SECRET is the designator applied to material whose
unauthorized disclosure could be expected to cause serious damage to national security.
CONFIDENTIAL is the designator applied to material
whose unauthorized disclosure could be expected to cause identifiable damage to national security.
Unclassified Material which does not fall into one of the three categories above are designated UNCLASSIFIED.
Define personally identifiable information (PII)
Any information or characteristics that may be used to
distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, such as their
name, social security number, or biometric records. PII falls under the sub-classification For Official Use Only (FOUO).
