• Many of the jobs were pointless and boring.
• Peoples’ real wages increased. They had more spending power. (3,8 increase per capita consumption during khrushchev years)
• There was not much inequality as wages differentials were small

• securing internal passport was made easier if you were a memeber of the party (number of party memebers 7m in 1953 to 17m in 1980)
• easier to get promoted if you weren;t moving around looking for better job opportunities w better benefits
