Why was cult of personality used?
A
- Reinforce powers of individual leaders by detaching the, from theoretically collective leadership of Politburo
- To rise their status above their colleagues
- To support the claim that they are legitimate heirs of Lenin
- Russian society was used to a tsar or someone. It provided a face for socialism
- Filled a gap resulting from restrictions on religion

- Fatherly figure (portrayed with children)
- “Lenin of today”
- Family man- his family house was turned int a shrine. Porteyed him as close to his mother
- Received loads of ridiculous orders such as “gardener of Human Happiness’’
-Was absolute crap- eg he was small and hated his mother
