What is the saggital plane?
Sectioning the body into right and left halves, can be medial or para. Also known as longitudinal plane.
What is the coronal plane?
Sectioning the body into the front and back. Also known as frontal plane.
What is the transverse plane?
Sectioning of the body horizontally. Also known as the horizontal plane or axial.
What does superior mean?
Situated higher up the body.
What does inferior mean?
Situated lower down the body.
What does medial mean?
Towards the centre of the body.
What does proximal mean?
Situated nearer to the trunk of the body.
What does lateral mean?
Situated further away from the centre of the body.
What does distal mean?
Situated further away from the trunk of the body.
What does posterior mean?
Situated towards the back of the body.
What does anterior mean?
Situated towards the front of the body.
What is the trunk?
The central section of the body.
What does deep mean?
Further into the body.
What does superficial mean?
Situated towards the outside of the body, to the surface.
What is flexion?
Reducing the angle at the joint.
