Q10) Briefly outline the findings of one animal study of attachment and explain one criticism of the study
(Lorenz)
Explanation
-research suggests that organisms evolved to have attachments
-split goslings into two groups. Group one with mother group two with him-first thing seen after hatching
-Put them back together group one followed mother and group two follows him
-Promotes survival-stay near caregiver
-Explains why goslings imprint after a matter of minutes due to their increased mobility compared to human babies
Supported by Guiton (1966)-glove and chicken experiment
Weakness
Can’t be generalised to humans because:
-humans have a more complex attachment
-don’t just imprint
Q12) Three one year old girls were taken to nursery by their mothers. The girls each reacted differently towards their mothers as they left. Bhavi ignored her mother. Ola appeared a little upset. Pippa did not want her mother to leave and was very upset. The girls also responded differently when the new nursery worked approached them. Bhavi was not at all upset, Ola was moderately anxious but Pippa was very anxious
Q12).1With reference to the different attachment types seen in the Strange Situation, identify the most likely attachment type of Bhavi, Ola and Pippa. Use the information provided to help you.
Bhavi- Insecure-Avoidant
Ola- Secure
Pippa- Insecure-Resistant

Q12).2 Briefly outline the behaviour each girl is likely to display when their mothers come and collect them from nursery
Bhavi- Will show no interaction/interest with her mother
Ola- Will run to mother
Pippa- Angry with mother & difficult to calm down
Q13) Outline van Ijzendoorn’s research into cultural variations in attachment
- meta analysis (study of study’s)
- secure attachment is most common in every country
- Insecure avoidant next most common everywhere expect Israel and Japan
- variation within cultures 1.5 times bigger than between cultures
- secure attachment is innate
