What happens in the first reading process?

A

MPs read the proposed law and vote whether to continue with it. 50% vote needed otherwise it is thrown out

A

A small committee of MPs listen to public submissions. Can then recommend any changes in a report presented

A

Where the process is accelerated due to urgency. Laws are created in a day and processes are skipped. i.e. select committee.
