what are tribunals?
tribunals are specialist courts that operate alongside the court system, they are used instead of going to courts.
advantages and disadvantages of tribunals
1- cost, parties are encouraged to represent themselves however due to lack of funding some cannot afford to take case to a tribunal.
2- speed, tribunal judges take on case management duties however it could be delayed if the case is complex.
3- informality, much less formal than courts less intimidating however intimidated parties this means parties may want to hire legal representation which in turn increases cost.
4- independence, this means judicial appointments commission appoint tribunal judges however due to lack of precedent it can lead to inconsistencies and unpredictability.
