Section A: Organisms And Life Processes Flashcards
What are the organelles of an animal cell?
Nucleus
Cell membrane
Mitochondria
Cytoplasm
Name the organelles in a plant cell.
Cytoplasm Vacuole Mitochondria Chloroplasts Cell wall Cell membrane Nucleus
What are pathogens?
Organisms which cause disease.
What kingdom does amoeba belong to?
Protoctists
What does invertebrate mean?
Doesn’t have a back bone
What is a hyphae?
Fine, thread like filaments forming the feeding network of cells of a fungus.
What does saprotrophic mean?
It’s a type of nutrition used by most fungi and some bacteria; where the organism feeds on dead organic material by digesting it using extra cellular enzymes.
What is diffusion?
When particles (liquid/gas) spread out from one place to another, without the use of energy and from a high concentration to a low concentration.
What is osmosis?
A process by which molecules of a solvent tend to pass though a semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrated one.
What is active transport?
The movement of molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration assist by enzymes and requiring energy.
What is the symbol equation for aerobic respiration?
C6H12O6+6O2➡️6CO2+6H2O
What does the nucleus do in a cell?
The nucleus contains genetic material that controls the cell’s activities.
What does the membrane do?
This forms the outer surface and controls the substances that go in and out.
What does the cytoplasm do in the cell?
Where most of the cell’s chemic reactions happen. It contains enzymes which control these reactions.
What is the cell wall?
Made of cellulose, it supports and strengthens the cell.
