Section 7 - Airframe and Systems description - 3 - Powerplant Flashcards
What’s the power plant of the P2006T?
two four-cylinder four-stroke Rotax 912S engines of 98hp (73kW) each, both rotating clockwise.
How are they cooled?
Partially liquid cooled
What do they feature?
they feature an integrated reduction gear driving constant speed propellers with pitch feathering devices.
How is the cooling system designed?
liquid cooling of the cylinders heads
Ram-air cooling of the cylinders.
How does the liquid system work?
closed circuit with an overflow bottle and an expansion tank.
How does the coolant flow?
coolant flow is forced by a water pump, driven from the camshaft, from the radiator to the cylinder heads.
From the top of the cylinder heads the coolant passes on to the expansion lank (item 1, Figure below). Since the standard location of die radiator (2) is below engine level, the expansion tank, located on top of die engine, allows for coolant expansion.
How is the expansion tank closed?
by a pressure cap (3) fitted widi pressure relief valve and return valve.
At temperature rise and expansion of the coolant, the pressure relief valve opens and the coolant will flow via a hose at atmospheric pressure to the transparent overflow bottle (4).
Once cooled down, the coolant will be sucked back into the cooling circuit.
How is the lubrication system?
engine is provided with a dry sump forced lubrication system with an oil pump with integrated pressure regulator.
How is the oil flow regulated?
Where does it go to?
What does this allow?
thermostatic valve regulates the oil flow to the heat exchanger (oil radiator) on the basis of oil temperature: diis allows the engine starting in cold conditions.
Where is the oil tank installed?
How does ventilation work?
behind the firewall protected from heat sources. Some holes on the bracket structure allow for air ventilation
What’s the reservoir fitted with?
a dipstick; a hose, immediately located beneath the filler cap, allows for oil relief discharged in a safe zone in the cowling, far from exhausts and other heat sources.
What are the powerplant instruments?
LI 1 and Rl 1 RPM Indicator
LH and RH Manifold Pressure Indicator
LH and RH Oil Pressure Indicator
LH and RH Oil Temperature Indicator
LH and RJH Cylinder Head Temperature Indicator
