Hot desking is a modern working practice, what are the pros and cons of it?

A

Hot desking -
(method of not giving employees their own desk but a fully equipped desk where many employees can work)

pros:

  • more space in the organisation
  • lower costs (not buying a lot of equipment/desks)
  • More people can work
  • Employees can use whichever desk is free

Cons:

  • Employees can under perform due to feeling disconnected
  • Better performance if they have their own desk as they are having to set their own personal equipment everytime

Tele-conferencing-
(A telephone meeting between many participants e.g for a meeting)

Pros:

  • Quicker way to communicate
  • When out of town, problems can be solved by calling.

Cons:

Video-conferencing:
(Voice and video communication - like Tele-conferencing)

Pros:

  • Can see the facial expressions
  • Similar effects of talking face to face
  • No travelling needed which lowers cost
