Section 4: Energy Flashcards
What is power
Rate at which work is done
Gpe =
M x g x h
Kinetic energy =
1/2mv*2
Work done =
Force x distance
Efficiency =
Useful energy output/ total energy input
Power =
Work/ time
What is energy transferee equal to
Work done
Pros of fossil fuels
Stored in large quantities, large amount produced in a short amount of time, profitable to run
Cons of fossil fuels
Non renewable, release CO2 (increase global warming)
Pros of wind power
Eco friendly, renewable, cost effective, can be built on existing farms
Cons of wind power
Ruins landscapes, kills bats and birds, slow, reliable on wind, not safe in storms
Pros of solar power
Eco friendly, renewable, low maintenance, reduce electricity bills, can be installed on roofs
Cons of solar power
Reliant on weather, only produce energy during the day, slow, initial cost
Pros of geothermal power
Eco friendly, renewable, abundant, no fuel needed
Cons of geothermal power
High initial cost, can cause earthquake when setting up plant, uses up a lot of water
