Three phases of acute hepatitis

A
  • prodrome = fatigue, headache, and low-grade fever for about 2 weeks
  • icterus = jaundice, dark urine, clay colored stools; liver is enlarged and tender; last 2 to 6 weeks
  • recovery = jaundice subsides; signs and symptoms improve; the liver remains enlarged and tender for an additional 1 to 4 weeks
