Plot
The main events in literature.
Persuasive Essay
An argumentative paper trying to sway the reader’s opinion to theirs. Also known as argument essay, utilizes logic & reasonings
Poetry
A literary work in thick special intensity is given to the expression of feeling me and ideas by the distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively of as a genre if literature.
Point of View
A narrator’s position in relation to the story being told.
Primary Source
A document or physical object which was written or creative during the time understudy.
Prop
A thing.
Prose
A written or spoken language in it’s form.
Protagonist
The leading character or one of the major characters in fictional/nonfictional text.
Repetition
The action of repeating something that’s already been said or written.
Resolution
The action of solving a dispute, problem or contentious matter.
Rhyme
Correspondence of sounds between words or the endings of words, especially when these are used at the ends of lines in poetry.
Rhyme Scheme
The ordered pattern of rhymes at the ends of the lines, poem or verse.
Rhythm
A strong, regular or repeated pattern.
Rising Action
A series of related incidents build toward the point of greatest interest.
Setting
Where and when.
Short Story
A story where there’s a fully developed theme but significantly shorter and less elaborate than a novel.
Simile
A figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different sort.
Slant Rhyme
Stressed syllables if ending matching consonants, however the preceding vowel sounds don’t match.
Soliloquy
One’s speaking thoughts aloud when by oneself regardless of any hearers.
Sonnet
A poem of 14 rhymes using any number of rhyme schemes.
Speaker
The person speaking.
Stage Directions
Part of the play’s script and tells the actors how to move.
Stanza
A group of lines forming the basic recurring metrical unit.
Stereotype
A widely held but fixed and over-simplified image/idea
