Section 3 (The Heart) Flashcards
What is the aorta? Where is it?
Carries blood from the left ventricle to all parts of the body. Is at the top of the heart
What is the superior vena cava
Carries blood from upper body back to heart.
What do the right atrium do and where is it?
Small chamber that pumps blood to the right ventricle.
What and where is the pulmonary semilunar valve
Prevents backflow from the pulmonary arteries back into the ventricle.
What and where is the tricuspid valve?
Prevents backflow from the right ventricles back into the right atrium.
Where and what is the right ventricle?
Thinner muscular chamber that
pumps blood to the lungs.
Where and what is the inferior vena cava
Carries blood from lower body back to heart.
Where and what is the pulmonary artery
Carries blood from the heart to the lungs.
Where and what are the left pulmonary veins
Carries blood from the left lung back to the heart (left atrium)
Where and heat is the left atrium
Small chamber that pumps blood to the left ventricle.
Where and what is the bicuspid valve
Prevents backflow from the left
ventricles back into the left atrium.
Where and what is the aortic semilunar valve
Prevents backflow from the aorta back into the ventricle.
Where and what is the left ventical
Thick muscular chamber that
pumps blood to all parts of the body.
Where and what is the descending aorta
Carries blood from the aortic arch down to the lower body.
What is the septum in the heart
The septum in the heart is a wall of tissue that separates the left and right sides of the heart.
The septum plays a crucial role in ensuring that oxygenated blood (from the lungs) and deoxygenated blood (from the body) don’t mix.
