Section 3 Flashcards
What are biodegradable fibres?
These fibres can be broken down naturally by bacteria and other living organisms, so fabrics made from them will breakdown quite quickly in landfill sites. For example plant based flowers like cotton bio grade easily
What are bio fibres?
These come from biological sources such as cotton and wool, biological sources are renewable, so bio fibres don’t use up non renewable resources
What are ethical concerns?
1) textiles are often produced in poorer countries with less legislation an out ethical working practices. Often child labour and sweatshops are used to produce textiles cheaply
2) toxic chemicals - pesticides, dyes and finishes can cause health problems for workers and for some consumers eg sensitive skin
3) use of certain animals products eg many people think animals shouldn’t be killed for fur
