A
- went to Memphis to support a strike of African American sanitation workers
- April 14 1986 assassinated by a sniper
- after his death Congress passed the civil rights act of 1968
- MLK’s death marked the end of an era in US history
- civil rights act continued but lacked unity of purpose and vision
