What is section 24 of PACE?
Arresting without a warrant
When may a constable arrest without a warrant?
When anyone who is about to OR in the act of committing an offence. The same applies to suspecting a person of both.
Can a Constable arrest if he has reasonable grounds for suspecting that an offence has been committed?
Yes, anyone who the Constable has reasonable grounds for suspecting has committed the offence or is guilty of an offence
What are the necessities for arrest?
To ascertain someones name or address
AND prevent the person in question—
(i) causing physical injury to himself or any other person;
(ii) suffering physical injury;
(iii) causing loss of or damage to property;
(iv) committing an offence against public decency (subject to subsection (6)); or
(v) causing an unlawful obstruction of the highway;
To protect a child or vulnerable person from the person in question
For a prompt and effective investigation
To prevent a prosecution being hindered by the disappearance of the person in question
