Section 2: Solar Safety Flashcards
OSHA requires protective measures in place when installing at greater than how many feet?
6 feet
Ladders - give me the details
Ladders must extend 36 inches above landing surface
Should use fiberglass ladders to avoid risk of electric shock
Should be a minimum of 10’ from closest power lines
Extension ladders should be used instead of A-frame ladders
Base of ladder has to extend at least ¼ of the height of the ladder
Tell me about guardrails
Less common, more difficult to install than mounting an anchor and hooking into it
Must be between 39 and 45 inches in height
Toe boards must be at least 3.5 inches high
What is a safety monitoring system for fall protection?
In lieu of fall arrest systems, guardrails or other safety measures, an employer may designate an individual to specifically monitor installers
Warns other of hazards
Must be working on the same surface/level
Must be within visual and verbal distance
What is a PFAS?
Persona Fall Arrest System
Harness
Anchor
Shock absorbing lanyard
Lifeline (be careful not to be entangled)
Keep lifeline as short as possible
Self-retracting lifeline, which minimizes tripping hazards
What happens if you overcharge a battery?
Hydrogen gasses are released, which are explosive
What causes arc flash?
High levels of voltage and current
What’s worse, AC or DC arc flash?
DC arcs are worse because they can travel much greater distance than AC counterparts and do not self exterminate
What does a digital multimeter do?
Is measures voltage, current, power and resistance.
What is lockout tagout?
LOTO procedures prevent someone else from turning power on when you’re working on a system. You turn the AC and DC disconnects into the off position and lock them in place, protecting yourself
How do you make sure you don’t work with a live wire?
Load side connection: turn off main breaker
Supply side connection: use pull meter
Larger supply side connection: Use utility disconnect
